Description	The Polar Postal History Society of Great Britain (PPHSGB) was founded in 1952 by Harry Evans. Over the years the Society has added to the initial area of collecting of the Heroic Age / Classic Polar Exploration (which includes Scott’s and Shackleton’s expeditions) to incorporate not only more modern polar postal history but also postcards, new issues, cinderella and thematic collecting. The Society now has a membership of about 250 worldwide, and recent auction realisations confirm Polar Philately retains a strong following. The aims of the Society are to promote the general study of the Postal History of the Polar and Sub-Polar regions (arctic postal history, arctic stamps, antarctic postal history, antarctic stamps) and to act as a medium whereby collectors of this material may correspond, exchange and acquire items for their collections and to obtain information about these areas. The PPHSGB issues its journal Polar Post quarterly, A4 size, covering items of interest from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Geographically this encompasses the British Antarctic Territory, Falkland Islands’ Dependencies, especially Base & Survey related items, Gough Island, Australian Antarctic (AAT) and French Antarctic (TAAF), Ross Dependency, South Georgia, Belgian/ Chinese/ Dutch/ German/ Italian/ Japanese/ Scandinavian/ South African/ South American/ Spanish/ USA bases/expeditions in the Antarctic, and many other countries maintaining a presence in the far South. In the Northern Hemisphere, items from the arctic area of Northern Scandinavian countries including Greenland), Russia, Alaska, and Canada fall within the Society’s area of interest. Thematic topics covered include polar exploration, penguins, seals & whaling, polar shipping, aviation and Operation Tabarin.
